AES made a commitment to exit coal by 2025 and “enable rapid, global decarbonization faster and more effectively than ever before” but they are not on track to meet this goal.
Take action to get AES to get out of carbon.

As the world strives for a safe climate, giant multinational AES is still operating 29 carbon emitting power plants in 9 countries that will continue to escalate climate change. Even more unbelievable is that AES is building or planning to build 2 huge new gas plants and an LNG terminal. AES’s dirty carbon based power plants have polluted communities and the company’s subsidiaries have been repeatedly fined for the environmental, safety and employment violations in multiple locations.

AES said in its 2021 annual report to shareholders and investors that it was taking action to develop the solutions that enable rapid, global decarbonization faster and more effectively than ever before. While they are building new renewable energy projects, most of the power they produce still comes from fossil fuels. It would appear that AES is spinning abundant bullshit, so we redesigned their logo to more truthfully reflect what they are really doing.

Join us in calling on AES to stop greenwashing. They are not just greenwashing, though. They are engaged in a new type of greenwashing called carbonwashing making paradoxical and dubious claims that they are addressing climate change while still owning, operating and building carbon-based power plants that will emit carbon for decades to come. We want to ensure that AES exits coal by 2025 and begins a transition away from all forms of carbon-based power to truly enable rapid global decarbonization faster and more effectively than ever before. This an urgent priority to meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement, which AES claims to support.

Carbon power is outdated, directly threatening people’s health and livelihoods through local pollution impacts, while fueling the climate crisis impacting people and ecosystems the world over. It’s time for AES to stop the abundant bullshit of outdated, polluting carbon spewing energy infrastructure and do more to build a cleaner, safer future.
